This jar is thrown with a mixture of smooth stoneware and crank clay which gives the iron speckling to the glaze.
The form was arrived at by throwing the jar and then cutting it horizontally in half, adding a broad coil of textured crank in the middle. It is decorated with a single stroke of red glaze trailed onto the spinning pot. There are two different shino glazes on the outside and a celadon glaze on the lid which adds a cool note.
